Križna jama
Kalvarija (Calvary)

November 16, 16 pictures

The images are mostly 768 by 1024 pixels in size, numbers in front of the picture descriptions are serial numbers of the original photo files. Vladimir Levašov provided great help during the excursion. The names of cave parts are sometimes the author's.
The purpose of the trip was to test the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra phone camera on one of the most challenging cave motifs in Slovenia, Calvary, the confluence of the two streams in Križna jama.

Bločice

56227. Dark continent in the ocean of clouds above Bločiško polje

Križna jama

56242. Rocks strewn with scallops in the bed of the Jezerski potok upstream from the Venice Harbour. The front has a left face in the shape of an isosceles triangle and is well discernible from afar.

56229. On the barrier between the tenth and eleventh lakes ...

56231. ... there are rimstone pools of various depths with beautifully curved and rounded edges.

56234. Towards the end of the wide and high tunnel of the thirteenth lake, which continues northward into the much lower Blato tunnel, a stream flows in from the east from the Pisani rov (Colorful Tunnel). The confluence is full of stalagmites and flowstone pillars, and the rapids above the flowstone covered floor give it a very special charm. According to
Tomaž Planina, the view of the confluence is the motive for the final cave photography exam, after the candidate had already honed his skills on scenes from Zelške jame in the nearby Rak Škocjan. The photo, which shows a close view of the confluence from the western shore of the lake, is illuminated by seven small floodlights, the author's headlamp (he is sitting on the bank at the right, lamp at full power) and Vladimir's headlamp by the tripod, also at full power. Technical data: capture time 4 seconds, f 1.6 - 2.0 (some partial photos in "Night" mode were taken with an aperture of 1.6, some with 2.0), focal length 8.5 mm (corresponds to 24 mm on 35 mm film), ISO 12800. The photo is slightly cropped on the left and right edges.

56239. View from the eastern shore of the lake to the western wall of the tunnel with a bright stalactite canopy

56240. The tunnel closes off quite a bit further on and the continuation very much justifies its name - Blata (Muds).

56238. View upstream from the rapids about ten meters from the bank along Colorful Tunnel towards the east. The dripstone pillar on the left is also present on the left edge of the photo 56234, except that it is not so well lit there. The published photo has a corrected perspective - in the original the pillar is tilted to the right.

Vladimir's photos

VL73. Two boats - front one with the author seats two very slim people, while the back one, intended for a ride on the first lake, seats twenty people quite comfortably.

VL74. Two more boats on the sixth lake, the upper one loaded on the lower one, which the cave guides use for a ride from here to Calvary. A rope from the ceiling keeps the boats in the same place regardless of the water level, and they can also be pulled to the bank.

VL76. Author's preparations for the photo 56231, the lights are more or less in place, only the camera stand needs to be moved.

VL79. After finishing photo 56234, the author is paddling back to the west bank to return with Vladimir to the beginning of Colorful Tunnel.

VL80. Preparations for the photo 56239

VL75. View of the confluence from the top of the collapse at the beginning of Colorful Tunnel

VL78. View from the same place upstream along this tunnel

VL77. The ceiling of the Colorful Tunnel quickly gets very low compared to the ample dimensions of the confluence hall.
