To the waterfall at the side of a cave-like overhang

50300. A most useful interface for filling up the mobile phones, in the home of Holidin's friends where we spent the night. None of the summer homes we visited had a connection to the national power grid.

50302. View to the other, southern slope of the valley, below the Kušona mountain, with an irrigated apple orchard

50303. The trail to the waterfall, mainly used by goats, winds over the slope of a steep ravine with these twisted rock strata on the other side.

50304. After some breathtaking turns where the poor grip of the rubber soles could mean sliding into the precipice we arrived to the first of the rapids.

50307. A short climb, a piece of cake for Holidin, and we reached this ...

50308. ... little waterfall.

50309. Here it is seen with Primož, photo by Holidin.

50310. View down the waterfall and the valley

50311. Climbing the western wall of the gorge was getting steeper and steeper. Heartbeat increased when Holidin discovered that there was another climber at work here, not long ago, a bear. Traces of his claws were in the same spots which he found to be the most easy to pass. We were afraid that the overhang center left would be his den, but the floor was too steep - in his sleep he could slide down.

50314. View of the overhang which looked like a cave yesterday, from afar, from the northern slope of Kušana. Holidin phoned Zëratullo in the morning and he told that it is just an overhang, not a cave. But a closer look was worthwhile, nevertheless.

50312. Continuing up the wall proved too difficult, so we had to descend. But if climbing up was difficult, the descent was even more and only Holidin could make it. The author discovered a hole in the overhang and using his caving skills, legs first, he pushed himself through and down to safety with the help of Holidin who positioned the hanging legs to proper rock grips. When you descend through a narrow passage legs first, the eyes are of no use.

50315. Eastern gorge wall rock strata, twisted to almost vertical position

50316. View east, down the precipituous ravine to the other side where the goats find a good pasture on bushes and wild vine, no matter how steep the slope is.

50317. The ceiling of the house porch where we stayed at midday

50318. Watching the newcomers, Holidin and the author, from the slope across the yard: Džavohir, Farroh, Zainaboj, Suhajlodin, Šarofudin ...

50320. ... and here on the porch with the author, as seen by Holidin.

At the summer home of Hudojnazar Mustafokulovič Zokirov

50321. The house is situated atop an orchard, on the southern side of the Chul-Bair foothills.

50323. A portrait of Hudojnazar, taken below his home. Click here for a conversation with him.

The family of Holidin Hudojberdievič Mustafojev

50332, 50338 and 50328. Holidin and Marzija

50336. Marzija and Holidin

50334. Malika, Marzija, Holidin and Maksuda

Back to Holidin's home

50339. Holidin on his donkey. It is amazing how much the animal could carry, and reminds one of the words Mustafa said on Djebel Zaghouan 15 years before: Un âne, cent kilos, un cheval, deux cents kilos, un chameau, quatre cents kilos.

50340. Šukurullo and Holidin on the trail with Chul-Bair mountain ridge on the horizon

50344. The trail crossed a stream bed, coming from below the Chul-Bair. Holidin's family walnut orchard is also situated here.

50343. Holidin's jack donkey named Zebra, after the stripes on his legs.

50342. Zebra's portrait

50345. Traffic jam on the mountain trail. A group of ...

50346. ... eight pack donkeys came from Dehibolo, on their way deeper into the valley from where they will bring back timber for a new house, tomorrow.
