The author would like to thank the Scientific Research Centre of SASA, his home institution, that has made the participation at the LREC 2002 Conference possible.
The following pages contain 150 photographs, taken during the visit of
Tenerife and Gran Canaria from May 24 to May 31, 2002. The author is grateful to
Joachim Ritter of Associación Tinerfeña de Turismo Rural (ATTUR) for his
professional help in arranging the pleasant stay and to Vicente Abreu Alonso
for his warm hospitality.
The islands, especially Tenerife
(map),
are a real feast for the eyes, a first-class experience difficult to match and
for a seasoned cave-goer volcanic caves near Icod de los
Vinos offer a totally new underground feeling. The two caves visited are
easy to go, easy to find from the beach Playa de San Marcos (both well
known by the locals - here is an
access description
for those who are not afraid of the most beautiful Slavic language)
and - warm. In other year seasons but the winter the
underwear you usually wear under a caving overall is more than adequate clothing.
Gloves are also indispensable, not that the rock would be too sharp
by itself, just for comfort and safety, especially in haste. Passages
are mostly dark and so good lighting is also required, especially for
photography. Optical slave flash triggers work only if directly illuminated,
preferably from close to medium distance. Caves are clean and should
remain so.
Most species in floral pictures have been identified by the author
and so possible errors are his.
Any comment will be most welcome.
